Christian Drug Rehab Centers

There are some genuinely Christian drug rehab centers. But there are also rehab centers that simply claim to have a religious bent. So what should you look for when you or someone you know needs Christian rehab?

According to Susan Roy of The Treatment Center , there are five things to look for when finding a Christian drug rehab center.

A full-time pastor on staff who works directly with patients providing pastoral counseling, prayer and encouragement.

Medical Detoxification facilities on site. When they are on-site (as opposed to at another, sometimes unrelated non-Christian facility) prayer and meditation are made a part of the detox process.

Bible based 12 step groups as the basis of the addiction recovery program. Celebrate recovery is an excellent example of this type of group.

A clinical program with Christian therapists trained in both addiction treatment and biblical counseling.

A Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations accredited facility. JCAHO accreditation means that the treatment center meets the highest standards of hospital care.

Why a Christian Rehab Center?

According to Bobby Nicholl of Celebrate a New Life, there are four good reasons to choose a Christian rehab center.

Christian Fellowship. The word fellowship in the New Testament can actually be translated, teamwork. Fellowship is the idea of people working closely together toward the same goal, inspired by the same God. This kind of partnership can only be found at Christian treatment centers.

Renewed Spirituality. It’s not enough to treat physical symptoms of drug and alcohol addiction. A treatment center needs to treat the whole person: body and soul. Recovering a person’s relationship with God is central to overcoming addictions.

Spiritual growth. Not only is there a need for a renewed emphasis on the spiritual, it is also imperative that a person grows or advances in his or her faith. To accomplish this, Christian drug rehab centers often offer worship services, bible studies, and other activities that encourage a person to develop a closer walk with Christ.

Forgiving one's self. Forgiveness is central to recovery. Often, the addict has done things that seem unforgivable. Part of recovery at a Christian treatment center helps each person realize and rest in the forgiveness of God. Secondly, others have often hurt the addict. It may be an abusive family member or friend. But whoever it is, a treatment center needs to help the addict forgive those who have hurt them. True spiritual recovery cannot take place until the addict forgives himself or herself, and then forgives those who have hurt them.

Please note that there are several different types of Christian rehab centers. Of those, there are some which are exclusively Christian and then there are those which offer a Christian alternative to the traditional approach. I have listed some of both below.
